We all do what we can
So we can do just one more thing
We won’t have a thing
So we’ve got nothing to lose
We can all be free
Maybe not with words
Maybe not with a look
But with your mind
Maybe Not-Cat Power
After the witches waved off the wolves, another impromptu meeting took place at Luann’s house.

There was a change of plans, they were going after Samuel and his hunters, someone (it wasn't clear who at this point) had decided to forego the diplomatic route and unleash hell on earth. The hunters had gone after one of their own, and as much as they hated to admit it, if it wasn't for Luca, Cadence's situation might have been much direr.
Sonja barely listened to the conversation; her mind was inside the Delacroix’s manor, thinking about Cadence.  She was her primary concern, she'd failed to protect her, failed her as a mother, she had to make things right, redeem herself somehow.
"I have to go," Sonja whispered as she rose from her seat.
Evidently it wasn't that much of a whisper. The others turned to her with shocked, confused looks on their faces.
"Are you out of your mind? Here we are, planning our attack to avenge what was done to Cadence, your daughter, my niece, and you have to go?" Luann scowled at her, her lips twisting bitterly.
Sonja could tell that she was trying her damnedest to keep her rage in check, but the sudden jutting of her hands told her she was failing miserably. Any second now she'd conjure an energy ball.
Sonja smiled bitterly when she saw she was right, Luann threw an ice blast at her.
And she countered it with her own fiery one.
"Don’t you fucking start that shit with me!" Sonja warned her sister, surprising everyone with her choice words.
Carmella jumped to Luann's defense, brandishing her magical wand…
…While Stella stood firmly at Sonja's side.
Dana was once again in the middle, she could never choose sides.
The division was more pronounced now. For years Sonja had tried to be part of the coven, but her resentment at them for sealing Warrick in with the vampires always stood in the way, making it impossible for her to feel like she belonged.
Stella understood her rage all too well; it could have easily been hers. She was pregnant with Rachel then. If Rachel was just a little bit older than Cadence, it would have been her blood that sealed the Forsaken.

Sonja's life, her rage, her regrets, her inability to communicate what her guilt was doing to her, could have been all hers now.

Stella knew all too well what Sonja was going through because their lives were not that different. She lost Rachel's father that night too. He never stood a chance, he was dead the minute he stepped outside to help the others. And months later, with the help of her coven, she welcomed Rachel alone into the world, and she spent a large part of Rachel's life lying to her about how her father had died. As far as Rachel was concerned, her father was a police officer and he died in the line of duty. In a way he had, but Rachel didn't need to know the gory details of that night.
"I think we all need to calm down. It's been a long night, let's sit down, I’ll make some chamomile tea and then we’ll talk like the sane witches we all are," Dana suggested after a long angry pause. She was always the peace maker.
"You think chamomile tea is going to fix this?" Sonja asked incredulously. When she didn't get a reply she carried on. "For years I put up with all your lame ass excuses about Warrick and why my daughter doesn't have a father. None of you could give me solid reasons for acting like a bunch of lawless coyotes and I had to keep covering your rash actions with lies and more lies. I am sick of all of you! Sick of this piss ass coven and your hatred for the vampires.”
“I'm going to get Cadence from Luca, and then we're leaving this God forsaken town. We'll go somewhere new, maybe to Bridgeport, where Cade can pursue her dreams, away from all this madness and hate."
With that Sonja stormed off, Stella tried to stop her, Luann too, but nothing would make her reconsider. Her guilt was too much today, maybe it was being back in Luca's house, back where Warrick had died, or maybe it was knowing how close she came to losing her daughter today, but whatever it was, had caused a mind shift.
She ran across the stream, wading in the water, going around it would have taken longer.
She was almost at the manor's door when it creaked open; Luca's form filled the doorway.

"Get out of the way Luca, I'm here to take my daughter!" she warned him. When he didn't listen she sent an ice blast at his feet.
"Crazy bitch!" Luca screamed at her as he jumped aside.

"Be very glad I aimed at the ground," Sonja told him calmly as she brushed past him.
Inside the manor there was no sign of her daughter, and she panicked.

"Where is Cadence?" she shrieked at Luca.

"Calm down, Sonja. What do you think I did to her? Drain her blood while she's in her spectral form?  Is your opinion of me so low?" Luca asked evenly.
Before she could reply, she heard a commotion coming from the basement; pushed by an invisible force she followed the sound.
Luca tried to stop her, but it was too late, she'd already seen Willow at the alchemy station, and heard the voices drifting from inside the cellar.
"Hello?” She banged on the door with her palms.
Her whole world stopped when she heard Warrick's voice. "Sonja?"
For a second there was only silence in the room as Sonja turned to Luca with eyes full of questions.

Luca just nodded his head, silently answering them.

Willow decided now was the best time to leave the two of them alone; she didn’t want to get caught in the crossfire.
"Why didn't you tell me he's alive, why didn't you?" She shrieked at him, her hands glowing with energy bolts.
Luca was grateful for the commotion inside the cellar; it took Sonja's attention from him long enough for her to calm down.

He'd never seen her inherent power in action and it scared the shit out of him. He knew she couldn't cast spells or put curses on him because Willow had cloaked the house with her own spells, and because of this he'd thought he was safe from her inherent ability too. He should never have underestimated the power of Sonja's emotions.
"Warrick? Is that really you?"

Sonja slid to the floor when she heard his affirmative, she touched the door lovingly and wept, reminding Luca of April that night so long ago, her devastation was so palpable he could still taste it now, years later. Or maybe it was Sonja's he tasted now at the back of his throat, making it hard for him to breath.
"Oh Warrick, I thought you were dead! I'm so sorry. All these years, you were right here and I didn't know," the remorse in Sonja's voice broke Luca's heart, making him question his own actions.

Was he wrong for keeping the truth from her? Yes he was, he silently answered his own question.

When it was all said and done, he’d done the same things she'd done to Cadence; he'd kept a life-changing truth from her. He had his reasons, and in his mind and in the eyes of his clan they were justified. But it didn't mean they were right...
"I'm sorry, I'm so sorry, Sonja," it was all he could muster. And it was the wrong thing to say.
It incited her to action; she sprung to her feet and unleashed her wrath on him as she sent fire orbs his way. "For weeks you made me feel like a bad mother, sitting on your high horse, judging me for keeping stuff from Cadence!"
Luca did his best to dodge her attacks; if he wasn't as quick as her orbs he knew she would have fried him by now. "I was going to tell you!"
"When?" Sonja's rage was unrelenting, not even Julian's stern voice from inside the cellar could get through to her, and he was usually pretty good at keeping people in check.
"When we finally open the door. I didn't want to raise your hopes only to break your heart if it didn't work." Luca explained. His answer seemed to do the trick; it redirected her attention back to Warrick.
"Oh God, we have to help them. We have to open the door," once the thought crossed her mind, she couldn't let it go...

  1. Wow yeah it's about time Sonja told off the coven!!!! They acted rashly and out of fear without regard to who they might be hurting in the process.

All these years she's hated Luca and the vamps, and her own coven really. That is a lot of hate and it's all coming out now.

Now she knows he's in there and alive, she's left her coven. What will they do? Will they attack once they know she plans to help get him out? Man Luca you should have told her sooner. She may have been willing to help because of her love for Warrick. I think you really did make this harder on yourself and April (poor April the thing she had to do :( ).

He hasn't told her yet. She may be calm for the moment but wait until she finds out Cade has been taken. Oh there will be hell to pay!!!

    1. Yeah, the fall out was a long time coming. For years she tried to get along, but almost losing Cadence was the straw that broke the camel's back so to speak.

You're so right, it's a lot of resentment and hate for anyone to carry around for so many years.

All the signs are pointing to the door being opened now, it's only a matter of time. I know, Luca should have been upfront with her, but I can understand why he wasn't. And I can understand her rage too. Too true on April, but knowing the witches, even if Sonja was on board from the start, they would have had to find another Star, I don't think the witches would have handed over theirs willingly.

I like your last thought, yep, Luca's in for a little more abuse.

Thanks so much for reading and commenting, Jaz!

    1. Very true, in hindsight, Luca should have brought Sonja to the fold a long time ago. But I can understand his reasons...and hers too for being angry with him. Thanks for reading!

  3. I wondered when this would happen. Sonja's goals are diferent than that of her coven. Iguess she just had to realize it for herself. Nice dream of going off to Bridgeport, Sonja, but it obviously ain't happening.

Her anger towards Luca is justifiable. Her reaction... he should've expected something like that. I must say, after everything that's happened, I'm glad she found out that Warrick is alive... in some form.

    1. Yes, I think it was only a matter of time before she called it quits. And you're right, she doesn't want the same things as her coven. True, Bridgeport would have given them the fresh start she so desperately yearns for, but in the wake of the news that Warrick's alive, that dream will have to be placed on hold for a bit.

And I completely agree on her reaction towards Luca. For a while he made her out to be a bad person, when he's just as guilty as her for withholding information.

      Thanks for reading!

  4. Awesome chapter. I can't believe she just up and left the coven. But is about time that she did. And then to find out about Warrick. My only question can her love truly get over the fact that he is now a vampire. And how will she respond when she finds out that Cadence was taken by the vamp who started this feud in the first place. Can't wait to read more.

    1. Thanks Anna!

She'd finally had enough with her coven. But as we saw from Stella's POV, since they locked up the forsaken, Sonja never really felt like part of the coven, her resentment toward them made it hard for her to completely forgive them and move forward. There'll be hell to pay for sure when she finds out Cade is missing.

Thanks so much for your feedback.

  5. I was rooting for Sonja for this chapter! I think this is a great chance for all of them to really connect now, meaning Sonja, Cadence, and Luca. She wants that door open now and I think once/if they do get it open then she will probably be more willing to accept the relationship between Luca and Cadence.

Now they just need to get it open!

    1. Yay,

It's not often that someone roots for Sonja, so I'm super excited that you were on. And I agree, this is a chance for all of them to set things right and work together. As for accepting the relationship with Luca and Cadence, I'd say baby steps first.

Yes, they do! Thanks for reading Aeon.

  7. ~ Sonja, has found out that Warrick is alive, but wait until she finds out that the Vampire that caused this mess to frame Luca, has her daughter!
~ She will even be madder at her Coven for imprisoning innocents!
~ That Warrick, should never have been imprisoned with the innocent vamps! That they were totally wrong, there rash, spur of the moment, justice, accused & imprisoned the wrong ones!
~ How wrong she will feel, she will know who was wronged,& her part in it,will not lessen the guilt!
~ I just hope she can hold it together long enough to help Luca!First get her daughter back, & then opening that door!
    ~ They then will be a family again!(with maybe a new addition!Luca,a son-in-law!)
    ~ Love it! (",)

    1. Aussie!

Yay, it's great to see you out and about, I mean, reading and commenting again. I was really worried about you!

Yes, everything is finally out in the open now. Sonja and Luca can finally team up and do what should have been done a long time ago.

Agreed on Sonja's feelings about her coven. And yes, her mental state is worrying, for Cadence and Warrick's sake she'll have to keep it together and help Luca.

I think Cadence would like that very much, being a family. Sonja will not be pleased about having Luca for a son in law.

      Thanks for reading!

  8. Oh my, a falling out with the coven? I smell trouble ahead! I'm glad at least one of the witches can understand how Sonja is feeling. I'm glad she found out that Warrick is still alive, and wow, she wants to open the door now! Sweet! I'm still hoping Luca and Cadence get together. Another great chapter, looking forward to more!

    1. TW,

Yeah, a falling out with the coven isn't good for anyone at the moment, especially with so much going on right now, Sonja will really need their support. Knowing Warren is in there, opening the door is no longer an issue up for debate for her. She knows what needs to be done, and she's willing to do it. Thanks for reading, and your constant feedback. You've been amazing!

  9. Oo so the plot thickens! Having just found out about Warrick and then finding out Cadence has been kidnapped, I can see Sonja losing it big time!! I just hope that its Ethan that's on the receiving end when she does. Thank You for the update, I can't wait to read more! Hugs

    1. Sue,

Yes, I can see Sonja losing it big time myself. Luckily for Ethan he's far enough from her, so he won't feel the full might of her wrath. No, thank you for reading and for all the love and support you've given me over the past year.

      *hugs*

  10. I have never really cared much for Sonja but I'll give her one for telling that stuffy bunch self righteous witches what they really are~

Well, that could have been much worse between Sonja and Luca, thought it did jitter my nerves a bit and he hadn't even got to the part about Cade yet..ugh...edenz~

  11. Oh wow! Sometimes I think her coven forgets that Cadence is her daughter! I don't blame her for being pissed off with them.

Now she knows that Warrick is alive, I can't wait to see what she does. I do understand why Luca didn't tell her, but she did have the right to know that he was still alive. When she finds out that Ethan has her daughter, Ethan had better look out!

  12. Ah, I'm finally catching up to the last few chapters. Amazing!
I loved watching Sonja finally stand up to the coven for taking Warrick away from her.
I knew she'd want to open that door once she discovered he was alive.
Now, I hope she and Luca together can get Cade away from Ethan.

  13. Whoa Sonja! hahahaha *LOL*LOL*@Luca's words to her. That was so Luca *LOL*

They are a team now, with a goal, and I am sure they will soon have an awesome plan. With her on their side, I am sure they can deal with Ethan and get Cadence back.

  14. Sonja... I really feel for her. Her husband was locked by her covent, her daughter is angry at her... She must feel so guilty and sad.
Now that she knows Warrick is alive, she will surely help Luca to free them.
Hard to believe he didn't want to give her false hopes though... He was rather merciless with her at the beginnning.
